Many people do not realize how many types of aftermarket door hinges there are and how long they have been around. These styles have been brought to the market by OEM parts in high luxury exotic automobiles. This article will discuss all the different types of doors and styles of aftermarket doors and where they were originated.

Scissor and Lamborghini (Lambo) Doors

These doors are also commonly named beetle-wing doors, switchblade doors or jackknife doors. These are doors that pop open and are then lift straight up vertically. This design was meant for wide cars, so that they would be easy to get out of without risking the chance of hitting something with the door. These were first used as OEM door hinges for the Alfa Romeo Carabo in 1967–1971. These are now seen in Lamborghinis. In the aftermarket world, there are a few different types and many different manufacturers.

These have been around for quite a while, and they were first introduced through Mercedes-Benz’s 300SL in the 1950’s. They were also OEM parts for the Bricklin SV-1 ad the De Lorean DMC-12.
